The polygon shapefile is included in "Geology_DrakesBay.zip," which is accessible from http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/781/DrakesBay/data_catalog_DrakesBay.html. This allows for water temperature and chemistry to remain stable (Ritter, 1995). Most of the image shows an area of dissected plains with a grassland cover that yields low radar return (dark tones). In general, the extensive and densely woody vegetated dunefields near the bay-side shoreline survived the storms, while the discontinuous dunes with grassy vegetation near the Gulf shoreline were almost completely destroyed. [This paper discusses hurricane effects on a Florida barrier island.
