It resulted in a victory for the confederacy. What we now need to do is to decipher these codes and understand what they can tell us about what has been done to the landscape. The charge broke the Confedereate ranks and stalled the Southerners long enough for Union reinforcements, but at a terrific cost. However, those last three were more important strategically in the first year of the war than most of what was happening back east at that time.
